Weekly Market Outlook: Markets Shift Their Focus to Key US Economic Data

Financial markets enter the new week with investors closely watching US labor market data, PMI reports and ongoing geopolitical developments in the Middle East. After the Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged once again, attention has shifted to upcoming economic releases that could determine the next move in the US Dollar, Gold, major currency pairs and cryptocurrencies.

Federal Reserve Keeps Rates Steady but Maintains a Hawkish Tone

The Federal Reserve left its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 3.50%–3.75%, but the overall message remained restrictive. Three FOMC members voted in favor of an immediate 25-basis-point rate hike, highlighting that inflation is still a major concern for policymakers.

Although no immediate tightening was announced, markets continue to price in a meaningful probability of another rate increase later this year.

US Dollar Faces Conflicting Forces

The US Dollar is currently influenced by two opposing factors.

Persistent inflation continues to support expectations that interest rates could remain higher for longer. At the same time, softer economic growth and weaker employment figures have raised concerns about the strength of the US economy.

This week's Nonfarm Payrolls report could become the key catalyst. Strong employment data would reinforce the Dollar, while another disappointing report may increase selling pressure.

EUR/USD Recovers as Eurozone Data Improves

The Euro ended last week on a stronger note, supported by encouraging GDP and inflation figures from Germany and the Eurozone.

Despite the recent rebound, EUR/USD remains highly sensitive to incoming US economic data. A weaker Dollar could allow the pair to extend gains, while stronger US numbers may quickly reverse the recent recovery.

Gold Balances Between Fed Policy and Geopolitical Risks

Gold struggled to build strong bullish momentum despite broad US Dollar weakness.

Expectations that the Federal Reserve could keep interest rates elevated continue to limit demand for the precious metal. Meanwhile, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East remain an important source of market uncertainty.

This week's employment report is expected to be the primary driver for Gold prices:

  • Weak NFP could support Gold.
  • Strong NFP may trigger renewed selling pressure.

Bitcoin Supported by Institutional Demand

Bitcoin continues to receive support from steady inflows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs, helping the cryptocurrency remain relatively resilient despite macroeconomic uncertainty.

However, expectations of higher interest rates and elevated Treasury yields continue to limit upside potential for risk assets.

Institutional demand remains a positive long-term factor, but broader market sentiment will largely depend on US economic data and Federal Reserve expectations.

USD/JPY Outlook

Despite additional policy normalization by the Bank of Japan, the Japanese Yen remains under pressure.

The wide interest rate differential between the US and Japan, combined with Japan's dependence on energy imports, continues to favor the US Dollar.

While occasional government intervention may create short-term volatility, the broader trend still supports USD/JPY unless monetary policy expectations change significantly.

Key Economic Events This Week

Investors will closely monitor several high-impact economic releases, including:

  • ISM Manufacturing PMI
  • ISM Services PMI
  • JOLTS Job Openings
  • ADP Employment Report
  • US Nonfarm Payrolls (NFP)
  • US Unemployment Rate
  • Eurozone PMI Reports
  • Eurozone Retail Sales

These reports are expected to generate significant volatility across Forex, Gold, Equity and Cryptocurrency markets.

Final Thoughts

The first week of August could become one of the most important trading weeks of the month.

Markets will attempt to balance expectations for future Federal Reserve policy against incoming labor market data while continuing to monitor geopolitical developments in the Middle East.

For traders, maintaining disciplined risk management and staying focused on high-impact economic events will be essential as volatility is expected to remain elevated across global financial markets.
